How are PET bottles recycled?
This process has been witnessed by SGS laboratory. The presence of the “GREEN CITY COTTON” label inside your product certifies the recycled origin of the used material.
- Bottles are collected and compressed into big bales
- Bales are opened and bottles are sorted by colours
- White (transparent bottles)
- Blue (blue bottles)
- Green (green and yellow bottles)
- Black (brown, red and all other colours)
- Bottles are washed and crushed into pieces (flakes)
- Flakes are put into water; PP and PE caps are floating while PET is sinking. After this process, we obtain pure PET flakes that can now be recycled further.
- PET flakes are melted and extruded into fibres, fibres are compressed into bales.
- Fibres can be either woven or not into woven fabric or non-woven fabric, or can integrate the recycled cotton process.
